Power on the Greens
27th June 2016 is the earliest record we have in respect of this project and the then Board was led by David Horn and included: Cllr. Katrina Farquhar, Gordon Riddler, John Lovie, Jack Coull, Paddy Wright, Richard Carrington, Alan Harrison, Sandy Mitchell, Ian Ritchie, John Burrows, and Sheila Sedgwick.
The project set up was greatly assisted by Lizzy Shepherd, Marr Project Officer who introduced us to David Ritchie from Banchory Farmers Market. David kindly gave David Horne and John Burrows a procedure outline, which is still used today.
June 2018 finally saw the establishment of a Power Tower on Golf Road Green at a cost of £10,407.72; the money was kindly donated by Ballater Victoria Week, Ballater Highland Games, Charitable Chiels, Coop Award, Ballater Farmers Market, Rotary Club of Aboyne & Upper Deeside, and a Marr Area Grant.
The work undertaken as part of the Town Centre Project enabled us to establish a second power tower on Victoria Road Green in February 2023.
In 2024 the Ballater Community Trust Board approved a third tower on the Long Green at the Hawthorn Place end, this once in place will enable all Greens to offer up power for events in the centre of the village.
The Power Towers are available for hire to any organisation, they need a responsible person to take control of the unit and ensure all the HSE requirements set down by Ballater Community Trust are complied with. Training is given prior to handing over access keys and a sign off process after use enables possible repairs to be undertaken. The units undergo an annual inspection and sign off by a qualified electrician.
